Engaging and Initiating reforms with NHRC ...

Sama is in close interaction with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on the issues of women and health. As a part of the NHRC’s initiative to spread awareness on human rights education Sama has been responsible in preparing a dossier on Women’s Right to Health. This document is a part of the set of Dossiers on Human Rights Education for University Students. The primary objective of these dossiers is to inform, inspire, motivate, cultivate curiosity and equip students to cultivate informed opinion. The attempt has also been towards locating and highlighting human rights discourses through the real experiences of people as represented by people’s movements such as Narmada Bachao Andolan, Right to Information, fisher folk movement, environmental movements and others across the country.

NHRC also invited Sama to develop a curriculum Handbook on Human Rights Education for Beginners for school children titled Reproductive and Sexual Rights with an emphasis on the ongoing reproductive rights movements in India for the University Grants Commission (UGC) through the SS Foundation, Karnataka. The curriculum provides information on reproductive health and rights, sexuality and the campaigns around these issues. Since the curriculum caters to schoolchildren, it was developed in a way that the concepts are easily understood.
