Campaign for the Right to Health Care ...
Being a member of the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA), Sama has been actively involved in the activities and initiatives of the JSA since its emergence in 2000, especially in the campaign for the right to health and health care to be enshrined as a fundamental right.
Sama has also collaborated with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to coordinate public hearings on the denial of Right to Health Care and towards ensuring the recognition of health as a fundamental right. This collaborative effort resulted in the development of the National Action Plan towards promoting and protecting health rights of the people and increasing the accountability of the State towards achieving the Right to Health Care.
In Delhi too, as part of JSA Delhi (JSAD), Sama is involved in several activities towards improving access to health care. The JSAD comprises of several partner organizations, a majority of which work in the bastis and colonies of Delhi on health and a myriad of other issues. Sama has been actively co-organising and participating in public meetings and health melas organized for increasing awareness on health and rights, and achieving improved access to health care.
Sama, along with Centre for Community Health and Social Medicine of the Jawaharlal Nehru University and other partners of JSAD, was actively involved in a research to assess the status of public health care services available in Delhi. The findings from this research are expected to provide the requisite evidence to advocate for the strengthening of the public health system and making it more accessible to the residents of Delhi, particularly the poor.
